Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the early 15th century. [2]

Fort Longueuil National Historic Site of Canada is an archaeological site located in urban Longueuil, Québec. The fort was demolished in 1810, and a church was built on its site. Built over the Vltava river in Prague in 1402 under the commission of the Charles IV (1316-1378), King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, this bridge completely replaced the old wooden Judith Bridge that served the citizen of Prague between 1172 and 1342, after which it was destroyed in flood.

Not many people know it, but the name Charles Bridge is relatively recent. Until 1870, it was called "Stone Bridge", just like the aforementioned bridge in Písek, or simply "Prague Bridge". Charles Bridge is built of sandstone blocks and it's construction is surrounded by many interesting legends. According to one of those, the builders decided to strengthen the bridge by adding raw eggs into a mortar. Historians still has not come to any conclusive agreement whether it is true or not.
